La Vida Boheme - Flamingo

Debbie Crosscup who produced the Beatles Rock band titles, asked me to do a few scenes on this video.  It is a different style of animation than I'm use to, but it was enjoyable to work on non the less.  It won a Latin Grammy for "Best Music Video" Directed by Tabitha O'Connell.

Gnomeo and Juliet

A lot of the Animation Crew from "9" moved on to work on this film. Later I was fortunate enough to have had a lot of them join me on "The Nut Job" movie as well. They really are an entertaining talented bunch of people. This was one of the sequences I supervised. I did this scene as well.

9

9 is an interesting film. It's quite a different step away from the animated feature films produced in North America. I respect the director Shane Acker for attempting to try something different. I supervised this sequence and this particular shot is one of the longest I have worked on in my career.

Two Squirrels

Two of the many designs I was asked to do for a feature film pitch.

BlockBuster Holiday Giftcards

Mike Smith and George Evelyn from Colossal Pictures directed this advertisement back in 1998 which was to promote the BlockBuster Holiday GiftCards. I drew all the backgrounds which were painted (non digital) later by Clive Powsey. Chuck Gammage and I did all the character animation and Raymond Pang did the F/X animation.

Check out the commercial here:

The NutJob

The Nut Job was Peter Lepeniotis's directorial debut with film. He offered a lot of freedom with the character design, and these were a few of my suggestions.

This was pitch Yowza Animation asked me to participate in years ago.

John Lewis Christmas Greeting

I was instructed by Passion-Pictures that the client wanted a classic old 2d animation look for this spot. This was one of the designs I did for it. Unfortunately Passion was not awarded the job, I don't know what company did the final commercial in the end.

Goblin

This is one of a few Goblin designs for a movie pitch I was asked to contribute too years ago. He was to be a miserable curmudgeon living in modern day middle America, or at least that's what I can remember from the script.

MetaJets

Clement Sauve did a lot of the initial design work for this show. After he left the project, I was asked to try and emulate his design style and do some of the work he unfortunately wasn't able to complete. Clement was a really talented fellow.

Peanuts- Metlife Superbowl

I still prefer doing hand drawn animation opposed to the computer generated stuff, even if it's only a few scenes here and there. The Peanuts characters are great designs and it was nice to have the opportunity to draw them. Dan Sumich from Passion-Pictures directing again.

Planet Snak

Chuck Gammage put together the pitch for this job. He designed and colored the 3 characters in less than an hour. Later that morning the both of us drove into Toronto to meet the agency creative and we were subsequently awarded the job. Chuck truly is a titan in the animation industry. He is able to design and draw anything in any style in record time.

I did these with acrylic paint back before I was introduced to Photoshop, or before Chuck's studio was building product in CGI. The cookies were painted on card and the bite marks were painted on an acetate overlay.

I drew all the Backgrounds for this commercial and Clive Powsey painted the majority of them (non digital). The box logos (Oreo, Ritz, Chocolate chip) where added later in post.

Lacrosse

My parents occasionally 'sign' me up to do various design work for people in the local community near where they live. This one I did while I was working in the UK years ago. The brief was to have a classic cartoony WB sort of feel. Apparently the team was happy with the image and so was my mom because I let her keep the payment. Once I was paid with a roast of Emu, which is quite tasty. A few times I have been paid peanuts...
