Felix Catfood

I was asked to do a few different design takes for Felix catfood during one of my working trips to London England. The agency wanted to completely re-in vision him. Here are only some of the images.

Hubba Bubba

I think it was Leo Burnett Canada that brought these guys back. I directed the first couple of  commercials at Chucks where I developed the art direction. The Later commercials  I had less involvement except design, layout and animating a couple of scenes here and there. The Movie Theatre spot I placed co-workers, and other odd characters in the audience strictly for my own entertainment.

Hubba and Bubba go to the zoo.  I was told the red back sides of male Mandrills are funny. I just follow the agency briefings.

Hubba Bubba Splash.  The agency decided to change the style because one of those individual's got on a 'Ren and Stimpy' kick. This was my life guard suggestion before the change.

Hubba and Bubba go to a Museum. This was the opening Background I layed out and coloured for the spot.

LVBeethoven

Of all the great composers LVBeethoven's music I like the best. I've been listening to it since I was a kid, and it has always been inspirational. This was drawn years ago. Someday I would like to do something proper with it.

Semper Fi Security

I was asked to design this logo for the Semper Fi Security service.  For payment I wanted to be taught self defence techniques against incompetent producerlings, art directors and ad agency people.

AK

This is quite an old drawing of a person I knew years ago.

Chameleon

I drew this while on an outing to the Toronto Zoo back in college.

Donkey

I have no recollection what agency or advertising pitch idea this was for. (one too many hits to the head while farming) I know I did it while at Passion-Pictures years ago, and it possibly had something to do with banks. I think the idea was kyboshed because of the possible infringement on the donkey from the "Shrek" franchise.

Sugar Crisp Bear vs Ninja

Some drawings from another agency pitch I did years ago while at Chucks.

Kids

These designs I did for some commercial pitch done at Gammage Animation yrs ago.

Rice Krispies - Miss Pink

This was part of a Canadian campaign to possibly change the color of Rice Krispies to the color pink. Kids were to call in to place their votes. You can imagine what the final results were.... Personally I think they acquired the same polling machines that were used in a certain Florida election years ago. Also her skirt had to be lengthened significantly for the final design in the spot.  Apparently, not only is cleavage offensive to some of the Canadian public, but legs are as well.

Doodlebops

While I was doing other design work for Cookie Jar, the talk of a Doodlebops animated show was mentioned to me. This was my take on the live action characters.

Mini Wheats

The Mini-Wheats dating game was the 1st of a new batch of some Canadian mini wheat commercials. Chuck as per usual did a design pass on the Mini wheat character and gave him that Gammage sense of appeal. I designed the complimentary characters and the background styling. This was an enjoyable job and very annoying job at the same time. In my opinion some Canadians can be so ultra conservative that they are extremely boring and uptight. The girl here had to be changed because apparently cleavage is offensive to some of the Canadian public.

V

It's only occasionally now that I do drawings for family and other people.

P's Dog

I don't do a lot of drawing outside of client work and some of the extensive personal projects that I'm working on. However, sometimes I do drawings for my co-workers and occasionally I do clean them up. (some of the joke ones I'm posting on another site)  This little guy is part of a larger picture that a fellow I worked with at Starz asked me to do for his wife. One of their kids so to speak.

Monday 12 August 2013

Alan Ginsberg and Abbie Hoffman

Yowza asked me to do a run on these guys for something to do with The Chicago 7 movie. I think that's what it was for.

Sunday 11 August 2013

Angry Little Girls

Yowza Animation asked me to do various design takes on the existing Angry Little Girl Characters for some project they were bidding on. This is one of those iterations.

Seinfled: The Marriage Ref

Passion-Pictures was hired to do the opening titles of this show. These are the Seinfeld designs I did as well as a few rough layouts poses for the titles themselves.

Thursday 8 August 2013

Gorton's Fisherman

The Gorton's Fisherman shown here was part of an ensemble cast of classic food mascots in a commercial that was done at Passion-Pictures. I got all the scenes of this guy to animate. The shadow and highlight FX layers were very extensive for this.

KiteKat

Back in 2001, I was one of  a few people asked by Passion-Pictures to do a pass on the existing KiteKat character design. The agency liked what I did, so that was the beginning of my working relationship with Passion-Pictures. Since then I have met and worked with some really great folks from that studio.

The following drawing was done for the KiteKat branding logo. Andrew Farley was hired by Passion or the agency to color the illustration.

The Kittens were to be part of a cheeky ad campaign. They were not used to my knowledge.

Print work: Drawing by me, painting by Andrew Farley

One of my initial concepts for the KiteKat re-design.

Nesquik Rabbit

The Gammage studio did a couple of jobs with the Nesquik Rabbit. This particular look of the rabbit was the result of the agency asking me to modernize him, dog-tags and all.. Now I'm thinking, I should have lowered his pants and had his boxer shorts visible yo.

Sunday 4 August 2013

Lucky Charms

Chuck's studio was asked years ago to pitch on a revitalization of the Lucky Charms character. A few people at the studio did a series of concept ideas which everyone enjoyed doing. Here are a couple of mine. Nothing was officially used in the end.

Chester Cheetah

The Cheetos ads were fun to do, and we did a few of them at Gammage Animation.  The hand drawn cat whether he's wild, wacky or suave still looks the best.

John K's Spumco meets Old Navy Flares and Big Pocket Jeans

Chuck Gammage Animation was awarded these commercials from Spumco years ago. I like John's design sense and I found him to be a good guy to work with. He lays things out well, tells you what he wants and you follow his direction. All in all a really enjoyable experience.

Old Navy Flares.

Old Navy Big Pocket Jeans.

Gotta Catch Santa Claus

I was asked to do some of the design work for the Gotta Catch Santa Claus Christmas special. This was the initial rough for Santa and the kids.

One of the revision passes for the Kids.

Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

Father Time.

Ritz Foosball and Canadian cheese

Topix FX has been around for years and it is well known for being a quality FX, Post and Commercial house in Toronto. I was first introduced to them years ago when post production was needed for the many commercials done at Gammage Animation.  Occasionally, Topix asks me to do design work for them as well.

A few Player designs for a Ritz Cracker Foosball game.

This was part of a Canadian cheese advertising campaign.

Jetbaby

I was asked to design the little space fella for the JetBaby Logo. Brian Cooper a colleague of mine who currently works at Bluesky Animation studios, also knows graphic design.  He did a nice job of cleaning up the drawing and adding his own style element to complete the rest of the logo. JetBaby is a great little store to find fun clothes and items for little kids. http://www.jetbaby.com/

Sprite

Some designs I was asked to do while working at Starz/Arc Productions.

Tiger

This drawing was done in college years ago. When I was a youngster my parents introduced me to the works of wildlife artist and naturalist Glen Loates. Glen's work was a major influence on me when I was growing up, and it still inspires.
